Online Therapy for Busy Professionals & Leaders in Johnson City and Across Tennessee & Virginia
Hunter D. Cook MSML, LPC/MHSP
A place where you don't have to have it all together to be taken seriously

You’ve reached a point where something needs to change
Most people who find their way to me are already capable and appear to be doing well. They’ve been managing responsibility, pressure, and complexity for a long time. But at a certain point, it becomes clear that those same strategies no longer work the way they once did.

-
You’ve tried to think your way through it, adjust, or just push on.

-
You’re not in crisis, but you’re no longer able to ignore that things feel off.

-
You’re looking for a different way to understand what’s been shaping your experience and driving your choices.
Therapy with me is...
Intentional and aimed at helping you clear your head
I’m not here to give you a 'to-do' list or try to help change your whole life in one sitting. My approach is about being intentional with our time together. We’ll focus on what you need today, while still looking at the bigger picture to understand why things are happening the way they are. I’ll be there to help you work through things carefully rather than rushing to quick fixes that don’t hold up over time.
About gaining objective insight and spotting the patterns that hold you back
As we work together, I’ll be honest and direct with you. I’ll help you spot patterns and name the things that might be hiding in your blind spots. I’m not trying to add even more pressure in your life, but to give you a clearer view of your world. We’ll move at a pace that is right for you. I want to make sure you feel supported and not rushed but also encouraged to act when you need that little bit of a push.
A space to navigate the complexities of life and the challenges that come with them
There’s no pressure to have your story figured out or your goals already set when you show up for the first time. I want to see the parts of your experience that feel tangled, conflicted, or hard to explain. We’ll navigate the challenges together, working with what’s happening in your life rather than trying to force it into a box of “symptoms or diagnosis.”
I'm not the right therapist for everyone

I’ve spent over a decade working with the people who keep everything moving. You’ve become an expert at wearing the mask of the rock-solid professional who has it all together. It’s exhausting, I know. With me, you get to finally take off the mask.
My style is unique, so I'm not the right therapist for everyone and you deserve a space where the complexities of your role are already understood. I bring a unique dual-lens to our work, combining over a decade of clinical experience with a master’s in management & leadership.
Because I’m familiar with what goes on behind the scenes in demanding careers, from the friction of constant change to the weight of being the one everyone relies on, you won’t have to waste time translating your reality for me. I’m already attuned to the high-stakes politics, the pressures, and the isolation that can come with needing to operate at those higher levels.
Starting with that shared understanding of your role makes it possible for us to be completely real with one another from the beginning. I'm the same person in this room as I am on the street. I’ll laugh with you, I’ll curse with you, and because I’m committed to your growth, I will point out when I see you trying to avoid the things that need to be talked about. You don’t need to be "put together" here, emotionally or literally. Just show up as you are; pretending to be anything else doesn’t help either of us.

Online Therapy
All sessions take place online because it offers flexibility without sacrificing depth. It makes it easier to fit sessions into a full schedule, whether you're working long hours, need to fit it in at lunch, or juggling home life. For many clients, it’s a practical way to access consistent support without adding more stress to the week.

My Guiding Principles
Authenticity
What you see is what you get.
I don’t do clinical detachment (that thing where your therapist just stares at you while you’re talking). I show up to sessions as a real person because I believe you can’t do honest work behind a professional mask. I offer a space where you can stop performing, use your unfiltered language, and be exactly who you are without fear of judgment.

Growth
Evolution over perfection
I'm committed to helping you move beyond just "coping" with your life. We focus on building the mental flexibility and resilience to handle challenges and the courage to change patterns that no longer serve you. If you're willing to put in the effort, I'll be right there alongside you for the journey.
Excellence
Expertise for the person in charge.
You deal with the unique pressures of being a busy professional or leader and the isolation that can come with that. You deserve a therapist who understands those complexities. For me, excellence means providing high-quality, evidence- based care like EMDR or ACT integrated with an understanding of business and leadership dynamics. I'm committed to bringing my best to every session, so you see real, tangible results.
